# Using emojis from your wrist controls

If you use a VR headset with hand controllers, you can access emojis from your wrist controls. However, a host can disable your ability to use emojis in a Session. To activate an emoji, complete the following steps:

1. Raise and rotate your left hand as if to look at a wrist watch.
2. Use the touch cursor attached to your right hand to select the emoji icon (![](/files/VxGiPlV0uAEnAbNIPcnc)).
3. The wrist controls change to show the available emojis. Select an emoji to activate it.

After you activate an emoji, the brightness of the icon pulses for as long as the emoji is visible in the Session. After the emoji disappears, there is delay before you can activate another emoji. This cooldown period is indicated by a rotating animation on all emoji icons.

To close the list of emojis and return to the standard wrist controls, select the X in the center.
