# Portals

You can use portals to move from Session to Session, without the need to go back to the main menu. For more information about portals, see [Travelling through a portal](/engage/essential-features/travelling-through-a-portal.md).

If you add a portal to an experience, and a user travels through it, they will leave your experience. If the user want to access your experience again, they may need to reload it and start at the beginning.

## Portal effect options

For instructions on how to access effect options, see [Effect options](/engage/experience-editor/working-with-objects/effect-options.md). For a portal IFX, the effect options provide access to set the target Session ID. This is the ID for the persistent Session that the portal will lead to. For information about how to find a Session ID, see [Finding a Session ID](/engage/sessions/finding-a-session-id.md).
