Mixed Reality
Mixed reality mode in ENGAGE is a preview feature that we've released for users to experiment with. Any user can join a Session in the Mixed Reality (MR) Room in virtual reality mode, but mixed reality mode is intended for use on only Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 3 headsets.
If you have a supported VR headset, you can experience a mixed reality environment, where virtual 3D objects and other people's avatars are added to the view from your passthrough camera. These virtual additions appear as though they are part of the real world. If you set up your room space, this can included virtual objects and avatars being occluded by walls and furniture in your physical environment.
You can share a basic digital twin of your physical environment with remote users who join. The basic digital twin is based on your room setup information and provides remote users with the basic geometry of your space so they can move within it more naturally. You can also create a more realistic representation of your physical space through photogrammetry models and added IFX.
The system supports multiple co-located users in mixed reality and multiple remote users in the same shared experience.
The two ways in which you can join a mixed reality Session are as follows:
Mixed reality (MR) mode: The background environment is the view through your passthrough camera. If other users join you in VR mode, you see their avatars moving through your physical space. If other co-located users join you in MR mode, you see their physical bodies.
Virtual reality (VR) mode: The background environment is an infinite plane. If a user has joined in MR mode and shared their basic digital twin, you see a representation of their physical environment and their avatar. If other users join in VR mode, you also see their avatars.
Both modes support the full suite of collaboration tools, such as whiteboards, media screens, 3D pen, and IFX.
When you join your first Session in the Mixed Reality (MR) Room on a supported device, the application will guide you through how to set up mixed reality mode step by step.
