# Starting your first Session

If you're a new user and want to explore the features of ENGAGE at your own pace, or are familiar with ENGAGE but just want to test a specific feature, you can create your own private Session.

1. Open the ENGAGE app, and then log in.
2. On the menu screen, select **Start Session**.
3. Select a Location.
4. Select **Just Me**. For instructions on how to create a shared Session, see [Sessions](/engage/sessions.md).

After the Location downloads, you are placed in your own private Session. See the following section for information about basic controls.
